Callbacks & Future Seeds

A callback is a specific earlier moment the show deliberately detonates later. That is not the same as a repeated name, a catchphrase, or a word two episodes happen to share. This rebuild sorts them.

Kid version: A callback is when the show plants a little joke early, then brings it back way later so you feel smart for remembering. A catchphrase is just a saying someone repeats a lot. This page keeps the real plant-and-payoff jokes at the top and puts the plain repeated stuff lower.
What the old version got wrong. The first pass scored a phrase as a "seed" whenever it showed up in an early episode and a late one. That counts co-occurrence rather than reference. It ranked ordinary English like "you know what" and character names like "Leslie" as top seeds. Those are filler and people rather than callbacks. The fix: a callback needs the later beat to point back on purpose, so each entry below is hand-verified with the real seed and payoff lines.

The test each entry has to pass. Not "did this word come back," but "when it comes back, is the joke that it came back?" The Ass Crack Bandit passes: a background news line becomes a whole episode. "Cool cool cool" fails: it is repeated for rhythm, never to remind you of a prior scene. Both are on the page so the line between them is visible.

The raw cross-era pool

Every string that shows up in two or more different seasons, any pair, early or late. Mostly coincidental English. Strip that, then narrow by how many times a phrase actually recurs. The signal rises as the noise falls.

Repeat bands each shows every phrase at that exact count; 8×+ is the tail
Down to the recurring core. Deeper thoughts expands each survivor with its context read: what the phrase actually is (a name, a chanted catchphrase, or a genuine motif) and, where the show turns it into an argument, the essay it grows into.
